Myths, Legends, & Tales:  We will take notes on theme, and we will examine various aspects of it.  Then we will read 14 of Aesop's Fables and see if we can match the fable with its theme (moral.)
CIS College Comp:  We will do ACT prep, and then we will go over my expectations for the prewriting for the descriptive essay.  Turn in your prewriting today.  I need at least 50 words plus your thesis!  Also, read "Ground Zero" on page 167.  This is a description.  Answer the Comprehension Ques #1, and the Vocab Ques #2 & 3.  This is due Friday.  Use this worksheet for your prewriting:Pre-writing for Descriptive Essay
Speech: After vocab practice, read The Last of the Breed read for ten minutes. Then, I we will finish our FEEDBACK DRAWING activity.  We will also do a literary elements search from Last of the Breed.
Young Adult Lit:  We discuss A Series of Unfortunate Events, part 3.  Complete your  Analysis Notes/Discussion afterwards.  I will also pass out the new books, Pigman, and we will start reading it.
Bible Lit:  Today we will work on the beginning of a great family saga, the Story of Abraham.  Finish Parts 1 & 2 of Abraham.

Myths, Legends, & Tales:  We will take notes on the difference between Romanticism and Realism.  Then we will read two news articles about the "Loch Ness Monster" and "Yeti."  Analyze two sides of the arguments.
CIS College Comp:  We will do ACT prep, and then we will go over more writing tips for Descriptive Writing.  Tomorrow, you need your topic!  Also, read "Ground Zero" on page 167.  This is a description.  Answer the Comprehension Ques #1, and the Vocab Ques #2 & 3.  This is due Friday.
Speech: After vocab practice, read The Last of the Breed read for ten minutes. Then, I we will start our FEEDBACK DRAWING activity.  We'll see if we can replicate the picture you drew based upon the directions you give to us.  You cannot receive any feedback from us in this process.
Young Adult Lit:  .We will watch A Series of Unfortunate Events, part 3.  Today you will write your summary in Camera View/Detached Observer or Limited Omniscient point of view.  We will go over some Analysis Notes/Discussion afterwards.
Bible Lit:  Today we will take notes on the beginning of a great family saga, the Story of Abraham.  Finish your Language Comparison and Tower of Babel assignment before you start Abraham.

Myths, Legends, & Tales:  We will discuss "Dolphin Girl," a Greek legend.  Then we will connect the word origins from this story to another work origin assignment.  Look up your name (1st and middle) on babynamesworld.com to find the meanings.  Then use dictionary.com to answer the rest of the word origin questions.
CIS College Comp:  We will do ACT prep, and then we will go over two types of description: subjective and objective.  (Take notes.)  We will also discuss "My Mother Never Worked."  Don't confuse theme with thesis when we discuss this.
Speech: After vocab practice, read The Last of the Breed read for ten minutes. Then, I will explain the concept of FEEDBACK.  We will do a feedback exercise in which you draw a simple picture and then explain it to us.  We'll see if we can replicate the picture.  You cannot receive any feedback from us in this process.
Young Adult Lit:  .We will watch A Series of Unfortunate Events, part 2.  Today you will write your summary in Third Person Limited point of view.  Watch for examples of black comedy, as well.
Bible Lit:  Most of the seniors will be absent today (senior auction).  The rest of us will work on a Bible Dictionary assignment, learning how to research info with this reference book.

Speech: Read The Last of the Breed read for ten minutes. Then, use magazines in the back of the room to find pictures that depict communication situations.  Explain them on your worksheet and attach the pictures to the worksheet.
Young Adult Lit:  .We will start A Series of Unfortunate Events, part 1.  First, we will look at the 4 viewpoints: 1st person, 3rd person omniscient, 3rd person detached observer/camera view, and 3rd person limited omniscient.  We will write our summary in First Person and be sure to answer the question about the "false start" at the beginning of the film.
Bible Lit:  We will finish the Online Noah assignment and Genesis 6-9 Noah.  There is extra credit available, but if you are finished with your work, be sure you check to see what we are doing Tues and Wed because I know a number of you will be absent.

Young Adult Lit:  We will take the test on The River today and do makeup work.

Myths, Legends, & Tales:  We will take notes on "Gombei & Wild Ducks" and German folktale ("The Fisherman & his Wife").  Then we will work on identifying Similes and Metaphors in the stories and in other literature.
CIS College Comp:  After we practice ACT questions, we will work on our Narrative Essays. Remember to read "Shooting an Elephant" on page 126 and answer the Purpose and Audience Questions 2 & 3.  Explain your answers.  
Speech: After vocab practice, we will read The Last of the Breed read for ten minutes. Then, we will take notes on the Communication Model and do a journal entry that evaluates our Case of Fear speech.
Young Adult Lit:  We will discuss Final notes today.  Then we will do a review because the test on The River is tomorrow.
Bible Lit:  We will watch In Search of Noah's Ark today (just part of it) and you will make a list of pro's and con's for the arguments presented.

Myths, Legends, & Tales:  We will take notes on "Jack and the Devil's Daughter," a black folktale and then we will read a Japanese ("Gombei & Wild Ducks") and German folktale ("The Fisherman & his Wife").  See if you can discover the theme these two stories have in common.
CIS College Comp:  After we practice ACT questions, we will work on our Narrative Essays. Remember to read "Shooting an Elephant" on page 126 and answer the Purpose and Audience Questions 2 & 3.  Explain your answers.  Tomorrow, we will do Peer Review/Share your essays.
Speech: After vocab practice, we will read The Last of the Breed read for ten minutes. Then, we will then continue presenting our A Case of Fear Speeches. We will talk about what it means to be a good audience, too.
Young Adult Lit:  We will discuss Chap 19 - End today.  Then read The River or your "A"-contract novel Shane.  Write a summary of what you read today. It must be at least 5 sentences and it must "cover" what you read.  We will test on The River on Friday.
Bible Lit:  First, we will take some notes on the story of Noah.  Read it and answer the story questions from Genesis 6-9.

CIS College Comp:  After we practice ACT questions, we will take notes on Narration.  I will explain your narrative essay.   Also, read "Sixty-None Cents" by G. Scteyngart on p. 103 and answer these questions: Comprehension #6 and Purpose/Audience #1,2, 3. It's due Thursday.
Speech: After vocab practice, we will read The Last of the Breed read for ten minutes. Then, we will present the rest  of our impromptu "Once Upon a Time...Storytelling."  Then we will take notes on Chapter 1: Public Speaking and write a 5-10 sentence journal entry on fear reactions.
Young Adult Lit:  We will take some notes on the adventure genre. Then, we will read the novel,The River.  .  Write a summary of what you read today. It must be at least 5 sentences and it must "cover" what you read.  Start the "A"- contract novel Shane if you finish The River.

Myths, Legends, & Tales:  After  taking notes on the oldest English poem in existence, Beowulf, we will read a story version of this folktale.  Answer the story questions on your own paper.
CIS College Comp:  After we practice ACT questions, we will review what a good thesis accomplishes.  We will discuss "Finishing School" by Maja Anjelou in small groups and figure out the implied thesis of this selection. Also, read "Sixty-None Cents" by G. Scteyngart on p. 103 and answer these questions: Comprehension #6 and Purpose/Audience #1,2, 3. 
Speech: After vocab practice, we will read The Last of the Breed read for ten minutes. Then, we will presenting our "Keep 'Em Talking" interview.  If there is extra time, we will do impromptu "Once Upon a Time...Storytelling."
Young Adult Lit:  We will take some notes and discuss Chapters 9-11 in The River.  Then, we will read the novel.  Write a summary of what you read today. It must be at least 5 sentences and it must "cover" what you read.  Be sure you have turned in Summary Page #1.
Bible Lit:  We will take some notes on the Creation and Fall story. You may work with a partner on Genesis 1-3.

Myths, Legends, & Tales:  After discussing Conflict, you will read "Dakota Legend" and answer the story questions.    Decide what kind of conflict is in this story and explain it.  Make sure you turned in "Legendary Characters." 
CIS College Comp:  After we review the syllabus for this class, we will look at the 5 areas of Discussion for Literature and my expectations.   We will read "What's in a Name?" on page 5.  Take notes on this info.  Then, at the  computer, write a Journal Entry on this article.
Speech: After vocab practice, I will introduce The Last of the Breed, and we will read for ten minutes. Then, we will start our Introduction speeches.  
Young Adult Lit:  We will take some notes and discuss the Exposition of The River.  Then, we will read the novel.  Write a summary of what you read today. It must be at least 5 sentences and it must "cover" what you read.
Bible Lit:  I hope you brought your Bible!!  We are learning about how the ancient manuscripts were copied.  Then, we will practice writing as they did while we "copy" Psalm 23.  We will also take a look at all the books in the bible and do a Bible Overview sheet.

CIS College Comp:  We will write the comparison/ contrast paper in class this week.  Also, get your best essay revised for your final exam.  
Myths & Tales:  We are watching Lightning Thief the last three days of class!  Record all the allusions to Greek mythology that you see.  Did you get your Final Exam taken and your make-up work in?  Also, turn in your book Lightning Thief, if you haven't already.
Young Adult Lit:  Today we are taking our final exam on Wednesday.  I will still accept the review work and make-up work through Friday.  Get your Reading Record and all books turned in to me, too.
