Mrs. Collins tells a story about an Iranian student. Who was staying with her. Once while she was away at the beauty parlor. Her sister called long distance from Washington, D.C. The Iranian student answered the phone. Since there was no one else in the house. When the operator asked for Mrs. Collins. He replied in a very clear voice, "He go to the beauty parlor."

After she had recovered from that response. The operator explained that she wanted to know about Mrs. Collins, not Mr. Collins. Still the Iranian student replied, "I say that he go to the beauty parlor."

Although the operator tried again and again to make herself understood. The Iranian student continued to give the same answer. Because in his language one personal pronoun can be used for all genders.
